Background of the study
Twitter threads in Nigeria have become a microcosm for morphosyntactic experimentation, where users adapt language to the platform’s unique constraints. These threads often feature innovative sentence constructions, creative punctuation, and hybrid morphological forms that blend elements of Standard English with indigenous languages (Okeke, 2023). The character limit imposed by Twitter compels users to condense ideas, leading to truncated sentences and unconventional syntactic patterns. Nigerian Twitter users also engage in codemixing and lexical blending, resulting in morphosyntactic constructions that challenge traditional grammatical norms. This study compares Twitter threads across various topics to document how digital constraints and cultural influences drive morphosyntactic variation. The research investigates the processes of word formation, syntactic reordering, and the integration of multiple linguistic codes, thereby illuminating how digital media fosters language innovation and shapes communication practices in Nigeria (Ibrahim, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Although morphosyntactic innovation is evident in Nigerian Twitter threads, there is a dearth of systematic comparative research on these phenomena. Most studies focus on lexical or pragmatic aspects of digital discourse while overlooking the structural modifications in sentence construction. This gap limits our understanding of how digital constraints and cultural influences intersect to create new morphosyntactic patterns. The study seeks to address this limitation by analyzing Twitter threads from different thematic contexts, thereby providing a comprehensive view of morphosyntactic variation and its implications for digital language evolution in Nigeria (Chukwu, 2024).

Research questions
Significance of the study
This study is significant because it provides a detailed analysis of morphosyntactic variation in Nigerian digital discourse. By examining Twitter threads, it contributes to our understanding of how digital platforms influence language structure and innovation, offering insights for both theoretical linguistics and practical communication strategies (Ibrahim, 2024).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to analyzing Twitter threads in Nigerian digital discourse and does not consider other platforms or offline language use.
